It was disclosed that a total land mass of 443, 503 acres, in both the Northern and Brong-Ahafo regions, would be needed for the Bui project, whilst 480 square kilometers would be the surface area of the lake, which would be created, as a result of flooding, when the dam is constructed.
In all seven communities, with a population of about 1,800, would be affected and relocated. Five of the communities are in the Brong-Ahafo and two in the Northern region. Those in the Brong-Ahafo Region are Bui, Bator, Dogokyena, Brewohudi and Dam site.
Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi, who is a member of the Bui Secretariat, said sectional areas for the detailing on the land acquired, would be made available and published after the signing of the documents covering the acquired lands, for Traditional Authorities and Individual Landowners to clearly make out the boundaries of the affected lands to claim compensations.
He called on the Chiefs and people of the area to exercise patience till the completion of the necessary documentations, since government would ensure that none of the affected persons suffers.
The Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who was part of the delegation, noted that there would be sorts of misunderstanding erupting as the project has commence, but since the project was of great importance to the country at large it needs the collaboration and support of every Ghanaian.
He appealed the Bui Secretariat to seriously look at speculative projects to avoid over spending on compensations. The regional minister suggested that since the Bui secretariat is too far in Accra, a district secretariat could be established to facilitate administrative processes.
Mr. Baffour Awuah urged traditional authorities to co exist peacefully to ensure the smooth completion of the project which would generate 440 megawatts of power to augment the current energy supply.
He also urged the local people who have been employed by the Chinese Contractors to dialogue on issues for effective resolutions instead of hostilities. Mr. Baffour Awuah pointed out that once the acquisition plan has been signed, one cannot use the government acquired land.
