THE BEKWAI Traditional Council (BTC) has organized a fundraising harvest, in aid of a scholarship initiated seven years ago. It would also go to fund construction work on the Gyamfi Park.
According to Mr. Sampson Ofori, Secretary to the Council, they would need GH¢23,200 more to complete the soccer pitch, and that a total of GH¢75,000 had so far been sunk into the project, since it was initiated.
Mr. Ofori indicated that between 2002 and 2006, the Amansie East District Assembly supported the project with GH¢15,000, while the Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Kofi Adusei Poku, contributed a total of GH¢2,800 in the same period.
In 2007, the Assembly paid GH¢3,000 towards the project. The Amansie Central District Assembly also contributed GH¢500 towards the projects.
The secretary, as well, announced that 52 people had benefited from the disbursement of GH¢11,300, under the scholarship scheme.
Addressing the gathering on Holy Saturday, as part of Easter activities by the chiefs and people, the Omanhene of Bekwai, Nana Kaakari Appau II, commended the government for elevating the district to municipal status, which he hoped would bring about development and improvement in the lot of the people.
Meanwhile, a parliamentary aspirant, Mr. Joe Osei-Owusu, who is also the Chief Executive officer of the DVLA, has pledged GH¢1,000 to the fund.
Conspicuously absent at the fundraising programme, was the sitting MP for the area, Mr. Kofi Poku Adusei, who was invited to the function.
