Monrovia — A 40-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with Negligent Homicide for allegedly causing the death of a three-year-old child in Clara Town, Bushrod Island.
According to court records, Teawah Kettor, a resident of Harbel, Firestone, was arrested for carelessly causing the death of little Jessica Foko on March 17, 2008.
The defendant's arrest and subsequent arraignment was prompted by a complaint from the deceased's father, Tamba Foko.
Complainant Foko informed Police investigators that little Jessica was sleeping in her grandmother Fanta Kettor's room on the night of March 17, 2008 when she was taken outside by defendant Teawah to urinate.
He narrated that the next morning, March 18, Jessica could not be seen, but after thorough search, her pair of red shower slippers was discovered in the toilet which is about 9 meters away from the house.
"While still conducting the search for little Jessica, her body was later discovered floating on the Du River in the Slipway community, suggesting that the victim dropped through the toilet hole," the court records stated.
During preliminary investigation, defendant Kettor denied knowledge of the act, but one witness, Siatta George told the police that on the night of the offence, while asleep in the room of Fanta Kettor, defendant Teawah stepped on her foot and when she woke up she saw the defendant coming from outside.
Another witness, Marie Nyumah said she saw the defendant at her door telling her to hide her(Teawah) in her house because her stepmother Fanta Kettor was embarrassing her to disclose the whereabouts of little Jessica who was presumed missing.
