Eritrea: Regional Conference Participants Stressed Need to Upgrade Skills And Knowledge of Workers So As to Ensure Economic Growth

Participants of the Regional Conference on the Role of Trade Unions in Regional Integration in Africa stressed the need for upgrading the skills and knowledge of workers so as to back up the ongoing coordinated efforts towards promoting economic growth.

The participants informed ERINA that they are impressed by the prevailing peace and security in Eritrea, as well as with the hospitability of the people. They also lauded the charm and neatness of the city of Asmara.

The President of the Mauritian Trade Union, Mr. Karima Baikashim, stated that the conference is taking place in a conducive atmosphere and that he has come to learn about the experience and situation of workers in each of the participating nations. He further expressed hope that the conference would adopt significant resolutions that would reinforce the endeavors of trade union leaders in helping resolve conflicts.

The Secretary of the TUFEA, Ms. Hanan Al-Amin, said on her part that issues of vital significance in the development of the region have been discussed in the conference. She also stressed the need for African countries to foster cooperation among themselves and work jointly in promoting peace and unity in Africa.

Likewise, the Chairman of the Kenyan Trade Union, Mr. Rajibu Miwandi, expressed admiration for the preparations the NCEW had made in organizing the conference. Stating that this conference would lay the groundwork for closer cooperation among workers' organizations that took part in the conference, he expressed readiness to work closely with Eritrea in the future.
