THE Government will release validated KCSE examinations results in May.
Education minister, Prof Sam Ongeri, on Wednesday played down fears over last year's examinations fiasco, saying what candidates received were provisional results.
Speaking at the opening a workshop on university education at the Kenya Institute of Education, the minister said the anomaly, which the council blamed on a computer hitch, would be solved.
"Unless the problem is sorted out, education could be compromised," he said.
More than 4,000 students detected anomalies in their mean grades, which affected scores of more than 800 schools.
The minister appointed a 15-member committee, which Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor, Prof Oliver Mugenda, chairs to investigate the matter. It completes work on April 8.
Education PS, Prof Karega Mutahi, said that examination results are confirmed after a 60-day complaint period.
"Certificates will be printed after the end of April," he said.
Mutahi said the error occurred during the final computation of mean scores, and subject grades were not affected.
Ongeri promised to push the establishment of the National Science Commission to ensure funding for academic research. He urged universities to make research findings available.
Eighteen institutions attending the two-day workshop are drafting a plan to make higher education competitive.

Elsewhere, Moi University Chancellor, Prof Bethwel Ogot, has cautioned that national examinations might not be recognised internationally if the KCSE fiasco was not resolved.
"We can fool around with elections, but not the lives of children, who cannot fight for their rights," he said.
He dismissed the probe committee, saying some of the members were part of the problem.
