Sixty-four teams were on Wednesday drawn in the first round of the newly named KFF (Kenya Football Federation) Cup.

The draw, conducted in public at the KFF headquarters in Kasarani, included all the 16 Kenyan Premier League club which were seeded.

The most enticing match up this early in the tournament appears to be that between former KPL champions Sony Sugar versus recently relegated Coast Stars. Defending champions Sofapaka look to have been given an easy round after drawing Shalimar of Naivasha. Top dogs Tusker face a yet to be named team from KFF Nyanza North's branch.

Four-time Moi Golden champions, Gor Mahia, tackle Super Eagles of Mombasa while unseeded AFC Leopards, three times winners, face a difficult outing against Sher Karuturi.

The first round matches will be held on the weekend of April 12 and 13.

KFF secretary general, Sam Obingo, announced that the tournament will be played on a one-leg knock-out format with subsequent rounds held on one weekend of every month until the final on October 24. The winners will represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup next year
