PEOPLE should adopt a saving culture and avoid wasteful lifestyles if they are to prosper, the President has advised. Yoweri Museveni gave the advice on Tuesday at Mutanoga Primary School in Ruhaama county, Ntungamo district, where he launched the Kikoni Parish Prosperity-for-All model project.
The project will be developed under the Presidential Initiative Against Hunger and Poverty programme.
"As Ugandans struggle to overcome poverty, it is important that people exercise financial discipline and endeavour to save as much as possible.
"What has been saved should be re-invested instead of being wasted on luxuries and immoral acts," the President said.
According to a State House statement, the President noted that although the Government had on several occasions implemented programmes aimed at eradicating poverty, little seemed to have been achieved.
He was, however, hopeful that the Prosperity-for-All programme would go a long way in eradicating poverty, since funds were available.
The President explained that one approach of the Prosperity-for-All programme would be to empower six model farmers per parish in the whole country.
The six will be facilitated to engage in modern farming and be role models to the rest of farmers in the parish.
In addition, a savings and credit co-operative organization would be established at every sub-county to avail low interest rate loans.

He advised farmers with small land acreage to engage in intensive agriculture like poultry, fruit growing, bee-keeping and fish farming.
The area MP and First Lady, Janet, thanked the Government for its programmes aimed at reducing household poverty. She appealed to her constituents to exploit the programmes to improve their earnings.
The youth, the First Lady said, should use their energy productively other than waiting to have white-collar jobs.
