Ogun State Commandant of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Abdulwaheed Popoola, yesterday said that 15 secondary school students were arrested for cultism.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta, Popoola said that the students, who were arrested last week, were members of rival cult groups.
He said that the cultists were apprehended when the Corps received a distress call on the rival cult groups that were fighting over "name calling".
Popoola, who declined to name the students' schools, said that fracas broke out when members of a cult group challenged the other group for bearing "Iroko" as its appellation.
"'We were called in the following day when the other group went for a revenge mission at a secondary school".
"'We discovered that the groups were armed with cutlasses, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons". "'They also tied red scarf on their head as their insignia," he said.

Popoola said that the students were arrested and brought to the command's headquarters at Oke Mosan in Abeokuta.
"Officials of the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, who were also aware of the development, came to our office and expressed concern over the development". "Honestly, the development is a source of concern to all of us, as it paints a gloomy picture about the future of our society," he said.
Popoola said that the parents of the students were later invited for counselling on the need to monitor the activities and behaviour of their children and wards.
