The following unedited statement from CPP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom's campaign team to Professor Atta Mills' NDC tells its own story.
It also reveals thedeep-seated mutual suspicion the political parties have for one another. How this would translate into peace or war as the 2008 campaigning gathers momentum is left to be seen, but at least this statement ends on a note of hope: " No insults please!"
The document put out by the Atta Mills Campaign Office yesterday perhaps is typical of the approach adopted by the old NDC: hit everything that moves without looking and in the process self-destruct! It had been thought that Prof. Atta Mills represented the "new", softer side of the NDC. Obviously not! He cannot hide behind attack dogs and continue to claim the title, "Asomdweehen".
There was a simple point made by Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, the flag bearer of the CPP at Cape Coast on Easter Monday. He asked the people to ask all the four flag bearers elected by political parties so far what they have done for the Central Region and Ghana that Ghanaians should stand on to vote for them. He then proceeded to itemize some of his accomplishments.
Prof. Atta Mills himself has not spoken about the matter. He is silent on the issue. But his office has assumed that he is being attacked and they have struck. Perhaps they should keep the ink wet and the ammunition handy because Dr. Nduom repeats the request for the flag bearers to provide information on their accomplishments wherever he goes - in every region and in every town. He has done this in all the ten regions. Obviously, the Atta Mills team only heard the one said in Cape Coast! We wonder why.
What Dr. Nduom also says always (including in Cape Coast on Easter Monday) is that three of the contestants have served in government over the past 15 years. Prof. Atta Mills served as Vice President and Chairman of the Economic Management Team of the NDC. Nana Akufo-Addo served as Minister of Justice/Attorney General and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Nduom served as Minister of Economic Planning & Regional Cooperation, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Minister of Energy, Chairman of the Millennium Development Authority and Minister of Public Sector Reform. Each one of them should tell the Ghanaian public what they did when they served in government that is visible and benefited the people and the country and should be the reasons to deserve to become the next President of the Republic of Ghana.
Dr. Nduom has prepared his balance sheet - debits and credits and he is sharing it with the Ghanaian public. The people respect this approach and applaud him for it.

This is the challenge thrown by Dr. Nduom. Ghanaians will be better off if Prof. Atta Mills himself will pick up the challenge and tell Ghanaians specifically, what he has done to merit their vote. Dr. Nduom has started a second round of going to all the ten regions and he will repeat the challenge. We are waiting for the debate between the Presidential Candidates to begin. We are ready.
