A well-attended annual Easter prayer breakfast that attracted Christians from different denominations was held at Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) on Monday.

A former Easter prayer breakfast committee member, Dr Christopher Chembe, said that they had a good response this year with roughly 1,000 people participating. He said the event that started small at Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) in 1999 has become an annual event.

"Every year we organise a prayer breakfast during Easter and invite churches and institutions throughout Botswana, because we may be from different churches but we all belong to the body of Christ," he said.

He said that they had different themes and speakers from different denominations, bringing Christians together. This year they prayed for HIV and AIDS in Botswana, strong families, the presidential transition and the nation of Zimbabwe. Chembe said this year's theme "It is finished" was the message Jesus Christ gave when he died on the cross. Chembe said Jesus Christ paid the full price for the salvation of all humanity.

He said this is the greatest message of Easter. The special guest speaker Pastor Pearl Khupe preached that God has called mankind to be relevant, to change the environment, to stay focused and accomplish their mission on earth. She said that although she is a trained lawyer, her real job is to minister.

Khupe said that Jesus Christ had key performance management objectives and "he was wounded for our trangressions". She advised that it is time for all believers to act and make a difference.
