Africa's banking elite will assemble in Nairobi next week to participate in the second annual African Banking Technology Conference which is scheduled to run from Tuesday April 1 to Thursday April 3.
The conference is expected to attract a spectacular line-up of local and international speakers. According to a press statement, the event will be kicked off with a cocktail reception on Monday night (March 31) hosted by the British High Commissioner, Adam Wood, at the High Commission in honour of the 68 conference speakers who will be sharing their knowledge and expertise with delegates from throughout Africa.
Kenya's Minister of Finance, Hon Amos Kimunya, will then open the conference the following day.
Among the line-up of speakers is Joe DiVanna from the UK, a world authority on innovative banking, who is expected to inspire the delegates with his unique presentation style. Some of the delegates will be attending the one-day "mini-MBA course" that Mr DiVanna will be holding in advance of the conference, entitled "The African Banking Agenda - Innovation,Performance, Service".
Security strategies will be one of the key topics at the conference. Speakers on this include Patrick Cunningham, Executive Secretary of the South African Anti-Fraud Service. George Pearson of Western Union and Deon Nortmann of ACI Worldwide who will speak on anti-money laundering measures. The second day of the conference will focus on payment systems, e-banking and cards. Barry Coetzee, MD of iVeri in South Africa, is expected to do a showcase presentation on "The frontiers of payment technologies.
Bernard Matthewman, head of Kenya's Paynet Group who are the lead sponsor of the event, will be addressing the question: "Are e-banking channels delivering on their promise for all stakeholders?"
Mitchell Elegbe, Managing Director of InterSwitch Ltd, Nigeria will do a presentation on his country's national payments system.

Norman Roberts-York of Transaction Payment Solutions in the UK, one of the co-sponsors of the event, will do a presentation on latest international trends in payment technologies.
"Banking the Unbanked" will be the theme of the third day, sponsored by Upaid of the UK, a leading supplier of mobile banking solutions. Aishwarya Lakshmi Ratan, a Microsoft researcher from India, will brief delegates on : "The possibilities and limitations of mobile banking in enabling poverty alleviation". Case studies will be provided by Patrick Quantson of CAL Bank in Ghana and Sam Kamiti of Kenya's Equity Bank.
The event has attracted support from big industry names like SAP, NCR, IBM, Cisco, Postilion, PIC Solutions and Maveric of India.
