RUNAWAY National Rally Championship (NRC) leader Ronald Ssebuguzi will be first off the ramp when the Mbarara Rally 2008 gets underway this Saturday at Bushenyi District Administration.
Ssebuguzi, in a Mitsubishi Evo 4, will be pursued by four Subaru Imprezas led by fast-rising Jas Mangat who will be making a belated return to the NRC after finishing second on his Africa Rally Championship (ARC) debut in the Alliance/Kobil Rally of Tanzania last month.
Ssebuguzi's car has just undergone repairs after crashing in the Jomayi Sprint on March 9. He will also face a stern examination from 2007 clubman rally champion Susan 'Super Lady' Muwonge who will flagged off third.
Black Widow, co-driven by Paul Nsubuga is to start in fourth. The top five is completed by the crew of Leonard Bagarukayo and Bashir Mbogo in another Subaru Impreza in a rally that has attracted 20 drivers.
Clerk of the course David Nsobya revealed that he expects a fast and competitive rally in the smooth and slippery terrain of Western Uganda.
"The route is smooth and very fast. However, safety is important and the locals must be cautious for themselves and their cows," Nsobya said.

Scruiteneering of cars takes place today at Pearl Petrol Station, Bakuli. The two-day 338km rally will act as the second event of the 2008 NRC calendar that got underway with the Luweero Challenge Rally. There will be eight competitive sections totaling 220km.
