Two sisters from Mhasvi Village in Chiweshe last week died after eating poisoned food.

Provincial police spokesperson for Mashonaland Central Inspector Michael Munyikwa said Plaxedes (25) and Dinotion Nyamande (20) died last Thursday after eating food they had prepared with water from a cup the two had used to apply atrizene to their vegetable garden.

"They started complaining of stomach pains. When their condition deteriorated they were rushed to Rosa Clinic where they died soon after admission at around 10pm," Insp Munyikwa said. Insp Munyikwa urged the public to exercise caution and be careful when handling pesticides. Earlier this year two children - Talent (7) and Tariro Manyetu (5) - died on admission to Karoi Hospital after eating poisoned food while their aunt was attending a church service.

It was only after a neighbour heard the children cry in pain that she went to investigate and found them writhing on the ground.
