SIX gunmen, riding on three motorcycles attacked a bullion van in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday, and carted away about N60m that was in transit.
Eye witnesses told Vanguard that the men had trailed the bullion van which had two mobile policemen attached to it and forced it to a halt between Garrison bus stop and St. John's stretch.
Like a scene in a movie, three of the men jumped down, firing sporadically into the air to scare away people.
Within minutes, the doors of the van had been forced open and the bags containing the money evacuated to their bikes, still firing and ridding off, while onlookers watched in awe at the speed and precision with which the operation was executed.
The two mobile policemen guarding the van were forced to lie on the tarred road, with their face down while their rifles were allegedly removed by the thieves, who were also said to have ransacked the driver's cabin, "in case some money was hidden there."

Confirming the incident, Police PRO Ireju Barasua (a DSP) said she was "aware of the robbery but do not have details on what transpired". She, however, could not confirm whether the rifles of the policemen were taken away.
Moments later, a police patrol van arrived the place and attempted a chase of the bandits but nothing was heard after that.
Eye witnesses told Vanguard that from the manner in which the operation was carried out they suspected an insider's work in the robbery.
