Angola: Parliament Speaker Bids Farewell to North Korean Counterpart

The speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament), Roberto de Almeida Wednesday here bid farewell to his North Korean counterpart, Kim Yong Nam, who last the country after a four-day visit.

Kim Yong Nam who led a delegation made up of the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Pak Ui Chun, of Health, Choe Chang Sik, of Trade, Ri Ryong Nam, and senior government officials, left for Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Angola, to proceed with his tour around Africa.

The delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea held, during their stay in the country, official talks with the Angolan party led by the prime minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

At the end of the conversations, the two delegations signed a "verbal process" to revitalise the Joint Bilateral Commission, with view to strengthen cooperation ties, and for the Angolan side it was signed by the minister of Foreign Affairs, João Miranda and, for the Korean, by his counterpart, Pak Ui Chun.

The document re-launches the bilateral relations in various sectors, including economic, science and technology, health, civil engineering, public works, agriculture, trade and industry, for the effect needing to adjust the current legal cooperation framework to the economic reality of both countries, according to the final communiqué of the talks.

Both parties noticed that since the signing of the economic and technical cooperation agreement in 1977, only three sessions of the Joint Bilateral Commissions have been held. Meanwhile, the fourth meeting should happen, soon, in Pyongyang city, capital of North Korea.

During his mission, the President of the Presidium of North Korea was received in an audience by the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, visited the future premises of the Agostinho Neto Cultural Centre, as placed a wreath on the monument in honour to the first President of Angola.

The Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, João Bernardo Miranda, and other government officials were also at "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport during the farewell ceremony.
