Brewing company, Bralirwa, has entered into a partnership with the local Cycling federation to sponsor this weekend's national championship calendar opener, the 14th Tour de Kigali.

"We are happy for the partnership with Bralirwa and the sponsorship for the Tour de Kigali," said Aimable Bayingana, the federation president.

"We want to make it more organized and publicized than before," Bralirwa's commercial director Alexander Koch said.

"This is the first cycling event we are sponsoring and we are willing to continue the partnership. But we shall first evaluate this Tour."

Koch declined mentioning the exact sponsorship budget, but Bayingana estimated the whole sponsorship package to be Frw 3m. "We find the funds enough to make the event colorful and have decided to award every participant." Bayingana revealed

The winner will walk away with Frw 200.000 while every participant will get Frw20.000.

The money prizes are motivational and intended to avail cyclists with some funds for training purposes, Bayingana noted. The tour, the first of its kind under the new committee has already attracted over fifty Cyclists from seven clubs and unconfirmed reports have indicated to Timesport that the participants and their bikes have already been insured by the National Insurance Company, Sonarwa.

Besides Bralirwa and Sonarwa, the tour has also attracted sponsorship from Ameki Color and Nyirangarama soft drinks among others.
