PRESIDENT Mwanawasa has described as disgraceful the recent reports in the media that Parliament motel has been turned into a place of immoral activities.
Dr Mwanawasa said it was a sad development if the reports in the media were true that some members of Parliament had turned the motel into a brothel.
President Mwanawasa, who was speaking to journalists at Lusaka International Airport shortly before departure for Botswana for a two-day official visit, said he did not want to interfere with the investigations by the National Assembly on the matter.
He said there were three arms of the Government and that the legislature had taken up the matter and he could not intervene.
"You have heard that Parliament will investigate the matter. I don't want to intervene but wait until Parliament has decided," he said.
Dr Mwanawasa added that Parliament motel was built to accommodate members of Parliament when in Lusaka and that news that it had been turned into a place of immoral activities was sad.
Finance and National Planning Deputy Minister, Jonas Shakafuswa, last week before Parliament adjourned differed with Chikankata member of Parliament, Munji Habeenzu, over his statement that some MPs were using the motel for sexual activities.
Mr Shakafuswa later confronted Mr Habeenzu at the bar within the Parliament buildings and issued disparaging remarks against women.
And Charles Mangwato of ZANIS reports that Dr Mwanawasa arrived in Gaborone, Bostwana around 11:45 hours yesterday.
He was met on arrival at the airport by Botswana government delegation led by foreign affairs minister, Mompati Merafhe and other senior government officials.
Zambia's High Commissioner to Botswana, Reuben Musakabantu and other Zambian officials in the advance delegation were also on hand to receive President Mwanawasa on arrival at the airport.
Dr Mwanawasa later attended an official luncheon at Phakalane Golf Estate in the outskirts of Gaborone hosted by President Mogae.
President Mwanawasa's delegation included Foreign Affairs Minister, Kabinga Pande, Finance Minister, Nga'andu Magande, President Mwanawasa's special assistant for economic Affairs, Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane and special assistant for Press and public relations, John Musukuma.

In the evening, Dr Mwanawasa was expected to attend a farewell dinner for President Mogae hosted by the commander of the Botswana defence forces.
Today, President Mwanawasa's programme will be devoted to the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) secretariat, starting with a tour of the new SADC headquarters plot in Gaborone before planting a tree at the current SADC secretariat.
He returns home today.
