Liberia: Another Ambassador Presents Letters of Credence

Monrovia — President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says her government is committed towards restoring relations with countries, interrupted due to the civil war.

The President acknowledged the pivotal role African governments played during Liberia's difficult period through the United Nations Security Council.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the President spoke Wednesday at the Foreign Ministry when she received the Letters of Credence of His Excellency Idrissa Sow, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Guinea Bissau. President Johnson Sirleaf traced Liberia's relations with Guinea Bissau and spoke of the economic recovery embarked upon by her government as well as the progress made toward debt relief.

For his part, Ambassador Sow stressed his commitment towards strengthening bilateral ties between Liberia and Guinea Bissau. He praised the Liberian President for the government's efforts toward poverty reduction and called for a concerted effort toward the achievement of the principles set out in the Poverty Reduction Strategy. The envoy recalled the pain and suffering Liberians endured throughout the civil war and expressed the hope that Liberians will all work toward sustaining the peace.

Also present at the ceremony were Acting Foreign Minister William Bull and Assistant Foreign Minister for Afro-Asian Affairs Henry Fahnbulleh.
