Vodacom Tanzania has set aside a Sh600 million sponsorship package for this years Miss Tanzania beauty pageant, the mobile phone company announced yesterday.

The company is sponsoring the competition for the third successive year, and Mr Mafuru called on prospective contestants to turn up in large numbers to compete in qualifying events.
He said Vodacom was proud to be involved in the development of youth, adding that the company would continue to support the competition, which determines Tanzanias representative in the Miss World contest.

Mr Mafuru added that Vodacom appreciated the role played by First Lady Salma Kikwete in making last years event a success. Mrs Kikwete visited the finalists as they were rehearsing for the 2007 contest won by Richa Adhia.
Mr Tanzania national coordinator Hashim Lundenga thanked Vodacom for its continued support.
He asked parents to allow their daughters to take part in the contest, saying this would enhance Tanzanias chances of getting a worthy representative in events such as the Miss World competition.
