The Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has signed a three-year Taifa Cup championship sponsorship deal worth Sh1.59 billion with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).

TBL national marketing manager David Minja said the deal that will run up to 2011 will cover preparations, administration, promotions and prizes expenditures.

"Our main objective is to promote soccer in the country and we believe the deal will go a long way in achieving that goal through the Taifa Cup," said Minja.

The deputy Minister for Information, Culture and Sports, Joel Bendera, and TFF president Leodegar Tenga thanked TBL for the sponsorship saying it would enhance soccer development in general, and boost preparations for the tournament.

The Taifa Cup 2008 edition is expected to kick off this May in Dar es Salaam, according to TFF calendar.

Minja said the tournament's winning teams would be be entitled to a Sh30 million jackpot, while the first and second runners up have Sh15 million and Sh7.5 million, respectively.

The team that finishes fourth will get Sh5 million. The most outstanding player, referee and coach at the end of the championships that involves the Mainland's 23 regions, will also pocket Sh2 million each.

The championship, which was last held in Dar es Salaam in 2006, was not held last year due to lack of sponsorship. Dar es Salaam region is the current title-holder.
