Isles title-holders Miembeni were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Jamhuri FC in the ongoing Zantel premiership soccer league match played at the Gombani stadium on Tuesday.

The hosts, who dominated most of the match, led just before end of first half courtesy of a Seif Saleh strike put through by Bakari Khamis.

Their fans turned in numbers and cheered the hosts throughout, giving them the needed boost.

Jamhuri could have scored their second mid-way into the second half, but referee Ali Omar Kisaka disallowed the goal, and ruled it out as off side.

The rejected goal became an issue later with Jamhuri head coach Burhan Msoma, who believes his team was robbed of victory through "poor officiating".

Mimbeni, under new coach Charles Boniface, got their equaliser through Hussein Rashid who combined well with Mussa Omar in the 70th minute to save his team from a narrow defeat.

In another match played at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar this week, Pemba's Chipulizi beat KMKM by a lone goal to leapfrog to the third position on the log standings.

Haji Shamte scored Chipukizi's only goal barely two minutes after kick off. But in contrast to the Miembeni- Jamhuri match, both teams in the latter tie hailed the officiating under referee Waziri Sheha with assistants Ali Juma and Issa Bilal.

On log standings, Duma-JKU is still leading the 12 teams with nine points out of three matches. The pace-setters have maintained a 100 per cent winning record.

Holders Miembeni are trailing the leaders with eight points from four matches.
