Odu'a Telecoms, owners of O'net and largest CDMA network in the South Western Nigeria said its adoption of the APC-MGE Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSes) has helped to safeguard the operations of its IT equipment.

"The APC-MGE solutions we opted for - incorporating APC Back-UPS and Smart-UPS units - have helped us achieve our objectives, keeping downtime to a minimum and have greatly assisted us in overcoming our power problems. Our data is properly protected against downtime plus the cost of maintaining our equipment is minimal. Our customers are happy because we are able to offer and deliver more effective and efficient services", said Mr. Kehinde Emmanuel, Chief Technical Officer, Odua Telecoms.

He said like several other IT-dependent companies, the firm's business is uptime-critical stressing that any downtime would generate a large number of customer dissatisfaction, huge increase in customer support expenses and would cost us an enormous loss in revenue.

According to him, it therefore becomes essential that its services be not disrupted during power outages.

"Unfortunately, historically, power conditions in our region have been erratic. Power fluctuations have caused a number of equipment failures, which have, in turn, resulted in lost productivity. To overcome these problems surrounding power failures, we needed to implement a reliable power protection strategy", he said.

"Like many other African countries, Nigeria has an unreliable power supply. This means that any electrical equipment, including PCs and servers, has a susceptibility to damage caused by power surges and spikes over which we would normally have no control.

The APC Back-UPS unit ensures safety and easy retrieval of stored data allowing users to work through brief power cuts.

The Back-UPS is configured to provide high-performance battery back ups for multiple workstations and telecom equipment. The voltage regulation feature automatically corrects brownouts and blackouts without using battery power", said Mr. Carl Kleynhans, Regional Director, APC Africa.

Odu'a Telecoms, a consistent user of APC products for more than four years is also considering to upgrade its protection solutions by implementing the APC InfraStruXure power solution.
