Wise Man

Officials of Gambia's National Intelligence Agency, have arrested five Brikama Youths, following reports of a looming demonstration in Brikama. Among those arrested include: Buba Bojang, Mustapha Ceesay, Musa Ceesay and other unidentified youths. Their arrest followed a recent lead story published by the Freedom Newspaper, in which some concerned Brikama youths, vowed to take to the streets if NAWEC, fails to desist from issuing fictitious bills to its customers.

The detainees refused to corporate with the NIA investigators. They declined to make any statement to the effect, even though they were forced by the agency to give statements.

The arrestees were rounded up at night by the NIA agents. Kebba Ceesay a brother to the two detainees said "while in bed, I heard a quarrel between the arresting officers and the youths. Two of my brothers were arrested and taken away. I went to the Brikama police to look for my two brothers: Mustapha Ceesay and Musa Ceesay, but could not access them. They came home the next day. They told me that they were taken to the NIA Head quarters in Banjul. That, they were being detained under the suspicion of undermining the public peace." Said Kebba Ceesay.

No charges were proffered against the five accused persons. They were set free the next day. They were warned by the agency to desist from engaging in activities that might undermine the peace and security of this country.
