In furtherance of its corporate social responsibility agenda as well as a tradition of rewarding host communities, Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) has donated a state of the art ICT centre to the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB).
Speaking at the commissioning of the facility in Abeokuta, Mr. Sola Ajayi, Divisional Head, South West, GTB who represented the Managing Director, Mr. Tayo Aderinokun said the gesture was among other things, informed by the need to contribute its quota to the educational advancement of Ogun State in particular and Nigeria in general with a view to engaging the students in productive activities.
He said the bank would continue to explore other platforms of partnership with the state government towards the actualisation of its goal of harnessing the potentials of the state and transforming it into a leader in the areas of infrastructural and human development.
"We believe that giving back and working closely with our host communities is a prerequisite for economic development and we have supported initiatives in healthcare development, education, sports and the arts
over the years in a bid to improve the lot of a wide spectrum of Nigerians.
"It is our belief that the new ICT suite will allow students to be taught ICT skills in an environment that has been specifically designed to enhance learning and set them in tune with global best practice in their chosen fields", he said.
Responding to the gesture, Prof. Oluwafemi Balogun, Vice-Chancellor, UNAAB on behalf on the governing council expressed the university's profound gratitude to GTB and urged the bank to ensure the good relationship and goodwill it currently enjoys with the academic community is not broken.
The centre is currently equipped with 50 systems, 48 cubicles, a big server, a standard generator, a V-Sat internet connection, 2 mobile ATM machines and over 15 air-conditioners. Also, it was revealed that at about 108 metres away from the facility, students could still be connected to the internet via 108 metres from the centre, there's wireless broadband.
