President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has lauded the Africa Partnership Station (APS) for coming to Liberia to provide humanitarian and military services to the people of Liberia as well as personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

Speaking Wednesday at program marking the donation of medical supplies and equipment as well as postal boxes to the government of Liberia by APS in collaboration with the United States Embassy in Liberia, President Johnson-Sirleaf said the donation could not come at a better time than now.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town, Monrovia.

She said it was amazing to see people from different countries volunteering their services to help others who were in need.

The Liberian leader told the gathering that the donation by APS signifies the strong relationship that exists between Liberia and the United States.

She said the donation would greatly help the government to provide better health services to its people.

President Johnson-Sirleaf then called on Liberians to volunteer their services to help their compatriots who are in need.

She said instead of complaining or criticizing it was important that they engage in some sacrificial work for the good of Liberia.

Earlier, U.S. Ambassador to Liberia Donald Booth said APS was in Liberia to enhance the country's maritime security as well as the Gulf of Guinea.

While in the country, he said APS would provide US$3 million medical supplies to John F. Kennedy, the Redemption Hospitals and Logan Town Clinic.

The U.S. Ambassador disclosed that a team of APS would be in Liberia for three months to renovate some schools in and around Monrovia including Demonstration Elementary School, Paynesville and Boatswain High Schools.

He added that the team would also renovate the Logan Town Clinic and would as well construct the road leading to the clinic.

Already, he said Project HOPE of APS was training midwives at JFK Hospital while APS' military team was training personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

Ambassador Booth said the continuous assistance of the people of Liberia by the U.S. indicates the importance U.S. attaches to the development of the country.
