The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) will hold a brainstorming workshop on "enhancing economic growth through anti-corruption measures".
The workshop, which will hold on April 2 inAbuja, is part of the body's social responsibilities to its numerous stakeholders and contribution to the government's effort at getting the nation off the shackles of corrupt practices.
A press statement issued yesterday by Dayo Ajibotosho, head, corporate affairs, revealed that the workshop papers would look at the "overview of the ICPC Act, EFCC Act , money laundering and prohibition Act and the Code of Conduct Bureau Act by Prof Taiwo Osipitan, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, as well as the global dimension of corruption and Nigeria's economic growth.
Participants would also examine the "role of accountants in minimising corruption, enforcement of the money laundering act and the role of chartered accountants in the economy.
ICAN came into being through the Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1965 and has made tremendous impact in the Nigerian nation through contributions of the Institute and its members to the development of the economy as well as its acclaimed strict maintenance of high standards and regulation of the accountancy profession.
It was established to determine standards of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons wishing to become members of the accountancy profession in Nigeria. The Institute, which is the only Nigerian member of IFAC, has over 4,000 fellows, over 15,000 associate members and close to 120,000 students on its registers and conducts examinations twice in a year.
