Immediate past chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on intelligence and national security, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Faruk has advocated full prosecution and severe punishment for all the indicted persons in the on- going power sector probe, once the report of the committee on power and steel ministry is accepted by the House of Representatives.

Speaking during an exclusive interview at his National Assembly office yesterday, the legislator who represents Birnin-Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza federal constituency in Kebbi State insisted that there should be no sacred cows in the on going probe if President Umaru Yar'Adua's government really cares about its image.

"I want to see all the culprits brought to book, and I am convinced that the president having started on a good note with enormous respect for the rule of law and good governnance would not compromise on this issue.

The people are eagerly waiting to see the president match his words with action. Nobody no matter how highly placed should be spared in the on going investigation. We can't just continue with our horrible past, we need to move this nation forward, and this is why the House of Representatives has opted to set the agenda for total redemption of this country.

Nigeria is larger than an individual, and no matter our position, we are bound to respect its constituted authority and the enshrined laws in its constitution, so no individual should be allowed to hold the country to ransom", Hon Faruk said.

He added, "We in the House of Representatives have done our part. And if truly President Yar'Adua is an apostle of rule of law, I don't think this probe would end like the previous ones. I am fully convinced that the president is conscious of his enviable image and would observe due process to the fullest.

"We can't just continue with bad governance and unbridled corruption".

Hon Faruk however could not understand the motive behind former president Obasanjo's headship of the petroleum ministry for 5 years inspite of the huge responsibility of his presidential office.

"How do we explain a situation whereby the immediate past president arrogated to himself the headship of petroleum ministry for 8 years, thus becoming the only person privy to our earnings on crude oil which forms 95 per cent of our income. Obviously alot of questionable deals must have transpired, all these must be looked into if truly we are ready to pacify aggrieved Nigerians".
