The Kintampo-North District Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), Mr. Paul Adu, has called for the early delivery of inputs, and funds, needed to support the Youth in Agriculture module, since the rains have commenced.

Speaking to The Chronicle, in an interview at Kintampo, Mr. Adu noted that the inputs and other materials were urgently needed by the youth, at this particular time, after preparing their various lands while waiting for the rainy season to commence.

According to Mr. Adu, the youth in the district have expressed much interest, and registered for the agric module, and that the delay in providing the necessary materials, needed for cultivation, would dampen their moral, thus affecting the programme in the district.

He disclosed that among the modules introduced, under the NYEP, agriculture leads the table, in terms of patronage, with 468 registered members.

It is followed by education, which has 152, health 108, sanitation 40, and that of paid internship 29.

The Kintampo-North District Co-Ordinator of the NYEP said the output of three communities, namely Chiranda, Dawadawa and Ata-Akuraa, which took part in the agricultural module, has gingered more youth groups to also register.

According to Mr. Adu, the Ata-Akuraa youth group, had presented 200 bags of rice to the NYEP, as a form of refund of the loans given to them, in terms of farm inputs, adding that the 200 bags of rice was enough to cover their cost.

He continued that the youth of Chiranda, and Dawadawa, are also ready to pay in cash, but have applied for more assistance to expand their farms, for more yields in the subsequent farming seasons.

Mr. Adu however appealed to the NYEP Secretariat, to provide the district office with a car to facilitate its monitoring duties, to ensure the sustainability of the programme to reduce the unemployment situation in the district.

He also urged the Secretariat to expedite work on the youth, who have long applied to be engaged in the various modules, under the NYEP, to save the district office from unnecessary provocation by applicants, who have turned to politicize the issue.

According to the Co-ordinator, some of the applicants whose applications were delayed, accused the district NYEP office of being politically biased, as they were giving more attention to NPP members than others.
