UGANDA'S remaining flag bearers in the on-going Olympic boxing qualifier in Namibia Ronald Serugo (l/fly) and Aldina Muzei (bantam) need not worry too much about defeats in today's semi-finals.

While a semi-final win guarantees automatic qualification for the Beijing Olympics, losers at this stage will have a second chance.

World amateur boxing body AIBA announced yesterday that losers in the light flyweight up to the heavyweight categories would have another opportunity to qualify.

"Losers in the 48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69 and 81kg divisions will have a second chance to qualify with a box-off for a third Olympic ticket on Saturday," explained AIBA.

Africa has a quota of 60 pugilists of which 31 have already got Beijing slots. The other 29 have to find their way via Windhoek. Uganda fielded five fighters in the week-long competition but favourite Ismael Muwendo, Edward Kakembo and Meddie Lubega could not make it past the preliminaries.

Serugo outclassed Zambia's Tresford Kaziwa (11-3), while Muzei saw off South Africa's Joseph Mhlongo 8-1 on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals.
