Zimbabweans from all walks of life should unite and vote for Zanu-PF in tomorrow's synchronised elections and send a clear a message to the West that their country will never be a colony again, the Deputy Minister of Indigenisation and Empowerment, Tracy Mutinhiri, said yesterday.

Speaking at a campaign rally to garner support for the Zanu-PF candidate for Insiza North House of Assembly constituency, Andrew Langa, Mutinhiri urged the people of Insiza to go out in large numbers and vote for ruling party candidates.

"It is only 29 March that will give a clear and effective message to Britain and America that Zimbabwe is a sovereign State and that Zimbabweans are behind their leader, President Mugabe," she said. Mutinhiri, who is also the Zanu-PF Women's League national commissar, said the economic problems the country was facing were not an excuse for people to desert their leader and surrender themselves to foreign agents.

"We know that our people are suffering as a result of the economic sanctions imposed against us by the Western countries at the instigation of the MDC. "Despite all the challenges, we want you to demonstrate to them that you still love your country," she said. "You have to understand that the war we are fighting is not among the Zimbabweans themselves, but it is between Zimbabwe and Britain and America.

"They are responsible for all the suffering we are facing." Mutinhiri took a swipe at the West, which is accusing the Government of human rights violations, saying they were the first to abuse Zimbabweans during the colonial era. "Our ancestors suffered for this land of theirs when they were being forced by the whites to move from one place to the other, but today they are accusing us of human rights abuses. One wonders what they are talking about," said Cde Mutinhiri, drawing applause from hundreds of supporters.

She said Zanu-PF must win tomorrow's elections resoundingly to close all doors through which the imperialists could return to recolonise the country. "Zanu-PF has to win these elections because if we fail, the West can use that as an opportunity to take over this country, so we have to defend it with our votes come 29 March," she said.

Mutinhiri said her ministry's priority was to ensure that Zimbabweans repossessed their land. She applauded the Government for embarking on a land redistribution programme. "As the Ministry of Indigenisation and Empowerment, our priority is land. We do not want you to be worried about where your children will settle as we will try to make sure that you all get land. "Zimbabwe is the first-ever country in Africa to distribute land to its citizens and most African countries are waiting to see our success so that they can also follow suit. Therefore, let us show them kuti isu maZimbabweans takaoma," she said.

Mutinhiri donated $8 billion to women's clubs in the constituency. Langa was grateful for Mutinhiri's support. "I would like to thank Dr Mutinhiri for the support she has given us today and I am confident that we will romp to victory," he said. The Zanu-PF secretary for administration in Matabeleland South, Essau Moyo, predicted victory for the party. He urged the electorate to go to the polls in the morning.

"This is an important meeting as we are heading towards Saturday's(tomorrow) elections. By 10am on Saturday (tomorrow) I want you to be done with Tsvangirai and Makoni and start celebrating our victory," said Moyo.
