Nigeria: Customs to Explore IT for Trade Facilitation

REPRESENTATIVES from various Customs formations worldwide are set to gather in South Korea in April for a three-day conference to x-ray the deployment of information technology to improve trade facilitation.

Titled: "2008 WCO IT Conference & Exhibition," over 30 experts will give insights and opinions on critical issues. They will also focus on the vital role IT can play in linking parties operating at borders in the most effective manner.

Scheduled for April 23 to 25 at Grand Hyatt Seoul, Seoul, Republic of Korea, the conference will look at ways border agencies can maximise cooperation by adopting a strategic understanding and approach to information; adhering to international standards, maximising collaboration with industry partners. The conference will address the needs of national Customs and how they can deploy ICT in their daily operations.

Participants will hear from six progressive Customs administrations using strategic approach to the redevelopment of IT systems. The conference will provide a platform for brand new products and emerging technologies to be showcased, and participants will have the opportunity to see and learn more about the latest IT solutions that have been designed specifically for the global Customs and trade market.

The World Customs Organisation has made contribution to the development of information technology capabilities among members.

Approximately, 400 technical workshops have provided detailed insights solutions for Customs administrations. Participants will benefit from outstanding networking opportunities with leading industry professionals and senior Customs administrations during key receptions organised alongside the event.

Those expected to participate include representatives of Customs administrations, the business sector, governmental and non-governmental organisations, lending institutions in international trade, transport, IT, logistics, and economic development.

The organisation has been organising a series of linked events to upgrade e-customs, bringing experts from reputable firms to share knowledge.
