A hot spot in Akwa, Douala where there is serious business in mobile phones and accessories.

The Economic Capital of Cameroon has all bad attributes a town could ever be known to possess. The town harbours all the bad boys, all the bad places and so on. It is a town where people hustle to make ends meet. They use a lot of wisdom and wrack their brains to come up with new kinds of businesses each day.

One of the dangerous places, with a dangerous business is called Dubai, situated in Akwa. This place got its name from the Country Dubai where business is booming. Dubai in Douala is not very different; there are posh phones of different categories sold. The forces of law and other have driven them from that zone several times and even ceased their phones but they have not given up on this business centre. As one of the activities in Dubai people change old phones for new ones with some amount of money added depending on the quality of the two phones. Also one could get a new phone at a cheaper rate or other phone accessories.

One of the vendors in the place, known as Jean Marie Gentle said the problem with Dubai and the reason why the forces of law and order keep a close eye on them is because these vendors could be very dubious. Amongst them he said are thieves who can steal from anybody who comes around to buy. Even some of the vendors could sell an old and bad phone to a customer without the customer's knowledge, this act is bad. "There are people who have come to buy chargers and seeing the innocence of the buyer the price is increased drastically". This is bad behaviour, he said.

"But there are still some good people who exist in Dubai", said Gentle. He said they do their business to survive and to be able to feed their homes. Gentle said most of them when arrested by the police; they go back to the business centre because according to them they must survive. That is the only means of surviving they have. These are the business men who are stable; they have a spot which you can always get back to them in case of any trouble. But it is meant for people who are smart. Anybody who is not smart should not get in to deal with the guys in Dubai.
