NORTH-West Railways (NWR) Limited chairperson, Enoch Kavindele, has said the firm should be given a chance to implement the Chingola-Jimbe railway project because it has laid all the ground work.

Mr Kavindele has also said financiers and consultants of the railway project are seeking audience with President Mwanawasa on the project.

He was reacting to Dr Mwanawasa who on Wednesday said the Government was considering establishing a railway line as it could no longer rely on Mr Kavindele's company.

Mr Kavindele said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the company had raised U.S.$500 million for the project and said it should be given an opportunity to implement the project.

The company was ready to start developing the area and all it was waiting for was an off-take commitment from Lumwana Copper Mine and Kansanshi Copper Mine as possible users of the facility.

Mr Kavindele said the company had adequate money and it had so far met all the legal and environmental requirements to start developing the railway line that would link Zambia to Angola.
