Dar es Salaam boxer Mada Maugo yesterday received Sh500,000 from a city-based firm, Aurora Premium Security, to help him prepare for an international bout in Astana, Kazakhstan's capital.

Maugo, the reigning East and Central Africa Welterweight champion, was presented with the money by the firm's chairman, Ali Suleiman, in the city.

Suleiman, who is also an ardent boxing fan, said he had been highly impressed by the upcoming professional boxer.

"I have been impressed by Maugo's boxing skills and his quest for more boxing titles outside the country", he said soon after handing over the money.

He said he believed the assistance would relieve the boxer of some expenses during his training sessions ahead of the international boxing bout to take place on April 12.

Suleiman, who was present during Maugo's first round knockout win over Kenyan George Owino staged in Dar es Salaam last year, said the boxer was on his way to boxing stardom.

He said should Maugo maintain his present boxing tempo, Tanzania would be proud of his achievements at the international stage.

Since joining professional ranks last year, Maugo has not lost even a single bout, a fact that had impressed Suleiman to the extend supporting him.

"I feel proud to assist Maugo who has shown unique competence whenever he is on the boxing ring. He is fast and physically very strong," said Suleiman.
