The opposition parties contesting the Saturday governorship election in Kogi State have out-rightly rejected the ballot papers printed for the exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Addressing newsmen in Lokoja on yesterday, the state chairman of Action Congress, Chief Mike Adeleye hinged their action on the lapses discovered in the new ballot papers.

He explained that the ballot papers contained the logos of 50 political parties instead of 11 parties participating in the by-election, adding that at worst, all the 16 political parties that contested the last April election would have featured.

He further added that even the logos are so tiny that ordinary people would not be able to identify the party of their choice, stressing that the photographs of the contestants are missing, thereby complicating easy identification by the voters. Chief Adeleye therefore enjoined the electoral body to print new ballot papers containing only the 11 political parties participating in the exercise.

He also demanded for the enlargement of the photographs of the contestants as done in the last general election, saying the logos must also be made bigger for eligibility and easy identification by voters.

According to the AC chieftain, if the errors are not rectified immediately by the electoral body, there is no how they can participate in the election.

He stressed that the by-election is a test case for the administration of President Yar'Adua, pointing out that the exercise must be seen to be transparent, free and fair.
