First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba is expected to travel to flood-hit areas in Oshana and Ohangwena on Monday to donate food and other items.

She said at State House yesterday that the prevailing situation in the northern regions and the northeast needs involvement by different stakeholders.

She is expected to distribute some items in Oshana on Tuesday and Ohangwena on Wednesday next week.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Loving Heart Charity Organisation, formed by the Chinese business community yesterday handed over 300 quilts and 300 mattresses to the First Lady who will hand over the items to the needy.

Handing over the donation valued at N$60000, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Ren Xiaoping said the Chinese business community felt duty-bound to respond to the situation.

She added that the beddings would come in handy especially that flooded areas could be cold due to wet weather.

The First Lady expressed appreciation for the support from the Chinese people.

An estimated 71000 Namibians are affected by this year's floods.
