Namibian artists need to become more self-sustainable through self-initiated efforts if the arts industry is to properly thrive.

This advice was given to artists yesterday by the coordinator of the Bank Windhoek Arts Festival, Professor Aldo Behrens, during a press conference to announce a bumper April activitiy programme.

"Bank Windhoek can only contribute funding towards festival projects, but the artists must make a success of their presentations in order to become self-sustainable especially young and upcoming artists. They need to seize the opportunities to improve on their works," Behrens said.

Bank Windhoek has, in a short period, initiated 15 smart partnership agreements with existing art bodies with two more programmes scheduled to be formalised later this year.

"Art lovers can once again look forward to a collection of culturally enriching experiences. Bank Windhoek, through the Bank Windhoek Arts Festival, remains committed to the development and promotion of arts and culture in Namibia," he said

A variety of performances and exhibitions will take place next month. The programme offers an array for young and old.
