Headman of Tokeh village has offered a portion of land in his community to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for the construction of a police station that will provide them with adequate security.

Chief Alhaji James Slowe told Concord Times that his community wanted to support the SLP and the government to improve on the security situation in his village.

"We are more than 2,000 in this community which is why we have also allocated a plot of land on which to build quarters for the officers," Slowe said.

He said he has always considered the deplorable condition under which the small number of policemen in the area operates.

Sergeant in charge of the post Sahr Kelly said the SLP was delighted to receive the gesture from the people of Tokeh.

He said his team's relationship with the community was very cordial.

Police officer 7219 Alhaji Jalloh said they are facing serious problems with the health system in the community.

"The post doesn't have toilet facilities, no medical centre, no good shelter, the cells are bad, no ration, no communication sets, no motor bikes or vehicles and in the rains the post gets flooded easily," Jalloh said.

He said he has been in the village for three years now and that he falls ill like three times in a month because of the poor sanitary condition in the community.

"The water we drink is not pure and most times we beg water from civilians because we don't even have jerry cans or containers to fetch drinking water," he said.
