Arthur J. Chadzingwa
Harare

In February it was reported that Parirenyatwa Hospital had stopped all surgical operations due to a serious shortage of anaesthetic drugs, sterilising agents and other consumables.

Deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare Dr Edwin Muguti confirmed this sad situation and assured the nation that Government was treating this as an urgent matter. I am pleased to report that after waiting for months, I finally got my prostate operation on March 11. On behalf of many other patients who were in a similar or even worse situation, I would like to thank the ministry, doctors, nurses and other hospital staff for their sterling work.

Special thanks goes to my surgeon, Professor Chris Samkange of the Urology Department as well to Dr Athanasius Dube and Dr Tonderai Mangwiro for their tireless dedication to the welfare of their patients.
