Monrovia

The African Bible Church in partnership with the Christian Humanitarian Assistance Program International (CHAP Int'l) has embarked on a five-day evangelism training for grassroots pastors in Monrovia.

The training which brought together 100 participants from churches in Monrovia and Mount Barclay is intended to sharpen the preaching and teaching skills of pastors, the General Overseer of the African Bible Church Sackie F. Kwalalon said.

Addressing reporters Thursday at the Church's edifice in Sinkor, Rev. Kwalalon noted that the training is also intended to win more souls and plant churches where grassroots clergymen would meet to administer the gospel.

He said their style of evangelism is not geared towards taking people from their churches, but to encourage them to come nearer to God adding, "Taking members from other churches is not evangelism."

He said following the training in Monrovia, they will move to River Gee County for a conference where local pastors will also benefit from the training program.

Also speaking at the news conference, the pastor of the Biblical Church Ministries in the United States, Tom Chambers said he came to Liberia to help the pastors find the resources to reach their communities.

He observed that teaching the words of God was important and added that "Jesus is the truth and the light."

Stan Weaver of CHAP Int'l noted that his group is involved in humanitarian relief in Liberia.

He explained that they have several acres of land in River Gee County where they intend to build schools and engage in agriculture activities.
