Monrovia — BIVAC-Liberia, a credible subsidiary of a giant worldwide pre-Shipment Inspection Agency, Bureau Veritas, over the weekend ended a four-day capacity-building training workshop for Liberian Custom personnel in Monrovia.
The training workshop was attended by some 35 Custom Officers representing 16-Custom Collectorates across the country. The 4-day training workshop which, was held under the aegis of BIVAC-Liberia is aimed at strengthening the capacity of Custom Officers deployed at various Custom Collectorates across the country.
Speaking at the close of the training which, was held at the offices of BIVAC-Liberia on Broad Street, Monrovia, the Commissioner of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance, Alphanso Gaye said the training was mainly intended to improve the skills and knowledge of Custom personnel in the country.
Com. Gaye pointed out that the training is useful for custom personnel as evidence by their performances something that has led to the increase in the collection of government revenue across the country.
Com. Gaye then urged Custom Officers in the country not to limit their inspection at the Freeport of Monrovia but in all the counties. He then called on Custom Officers to exhibit what he calls good quality and more diligent in the performance of their respective duties.
"You must be patient in carry out your work, the interest of government must be prioritized and be mindful as you carryout your functions because whenever you are caught in malpractices or dishonesty, you will be dealt with," Commissioner Gaye reminded the trained officers.
He lauded BIVAC-Liberia for the good partnership and assured that government will continues to engage BIVAC-Liberia so that the contract that presently exist between the Ministry of Finance and the company can be upheld.
Earlier, BIVAC-Liberia's Managing Director Pascal Genet disclosed that the just-ended training workshop is the third in a series of trainings that have been conducted by his company for Liberian Customs personnel this year.
Mr. Genet then, assured that BIVAC-Liberia will continue the training for Custom officers across the country but urged them to take the training serious as it is intended to upgrade their skills and knowledge in performing their duties for the benefit of their nation.
Since the historic consummation of a pre-shipment contract between BIVAC-Liberia and the government of Liberia in October 1997, BIVAC-Liberia continues to make monumental contribution to the national economic recovery efforts in critical areas of training, revenue collection and reform.
Over the years, BIVAC-Liberia continues to provide refresher training opportunity for Liberian Customs Personnel to enable them get on par with their colleagues around the world.
