Huambo — The chairperson of the executive commission of the Union of Portuguese Speaking Capital Cities (UCCLA), António Costa said that the organisation he represents is based on peaceful fraternity and sociability among various cities.
The official made these remarks Friday in central Huambo province whilst presiding over the opening session of the UCCLA's executive commission, held this Friday, and which aimed at analysing the internal organisation of 24th General Assembly, scheduled for Saturday at Calenga locality, Caála district.
António Costa referred that UCCLA unites, through fraternity ties, various cities from different continents, starting from Delhi (Asia) as far as Rio de Janeiro (South America).
On his turn, the provincial governor of Huambo, Paulo Kassoma said he hopes that UCCLA's action could contribute to the development of Angolan cities and benefit from the organisation's solidarity and assistance in the solving of greater concerns they face so as to improve the population's living standards.
The meeting of the executive commission gathers 11 members, including the chairperson, secretary-general and members of the general assembly's host city.
Visits to the various socio-economic undertakings are also part of Friday's agenda.
Still according to the programme, Saturday's programme includes the holding of the general assembly at Calenga commune, Caála district, and its opening session shall be presided over by the minister of Territory Administration, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira.
UCCLA's efective members comprise Bissau, Bolama, Brasilia, Cacheu, Delhi, Guimarães, Mozambique Island, Lisbon, Luanda, Macau, Maputo, Oecussi- Ambeno, Praia, Ribeira Grande de São Tiago, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Santo António of Principe, Sao Tome and Agua Grande.
Whereas, Assomada , Bethlehem, Belo Horizonte, Gabu, Huambo, Porto Alegre, Sao Filipe, São Vicente/Mindelo, are associated members.
UCCLA is supported by 39 companies based in Portuguese speaking countries, representatives of the leading economic sectors: Banking, Communication, Airlines, Civil Engineering, Public Works, Energy and Tourism.
