THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has started announcing official results of harmonised elections and the opposition party won three of the first six parliamentary seats declared.
We will be bringing you updates throughout the day on the Zimbabwe Guardian website blog throughout the day.
The results show the opposition MDC and Zanu PF neck and neck.
Deputy chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana made the announcement, broadcast live on state radio and television, with the declaration of six parliamentary seats - three for President Mugabe's ruling party, three for the opposition.
Voting in Saturday's elections was declared free and fair by observers and general peaceful.
Running against President Mugabe are opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, 55, who narrowly lost 2002 elections, and former ruling party member and Finance Minister Simba Makoni, 58, and independent candidate Langton Towungana.
Here are some of the election results released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
Chegutu West constituency has been won by MDC Tsvangirai's Takalani Matibe.
Goromonzi Wes was won by Zanu-PF candidate Beatrice Nyampinga.
Mutoko North was won by Zanu-PF's Mabel Chinomona.
Mutasa South was won by Misheck Kagurabadza of the MDC Tsvangirai faction.
Chipinge Central was won by Zanu PF's Alice Mwayemura..
Mutare Central was won by MDC Tsvangirai's Innocent Gonese.
