Emba-Kakuat, 29 March 2008 - The construction of major embankments and bridges around Mihimas River in Emba-Kakuat at a cost of 12 million Nakfa is underway, according to Mr. Gebremichael Mengistu, head of community development reconstruction program.

The scheme is aimed at preventing excessive floods and diverting river waters for agricultural purpose.

Six embankments that are 138-meter high and 4-meter wide as well as two major new bridges are in the process of construction, in addition to the renovation of a similar bridge.

Moreover, a 72-meter high and 8-meter wide bridge has been put in place along the Digsa-Hawatsu route which was difficult for transportation during the rainy season.

Reports indicated that over 300 nationals have secured job opportunities in the program. The Administrator of Adi-Keih sub-zone, Mr. Kidane Abraha, lauded the initiative and called on the local inhabitants to back up the activities.
