Huambo

Participants to the XXIV General Assembly of the Union of Portuguese Speaking Capital Cities (UCCLA), held Saturday at Calenga locality, 32 kilometres from Huambo city, highlighted the efforts implemented by the Angolan Government towards national reconstruction.

According to the final communiqué of the event, the participants recognised the government's commitment to the administrative decentralisation process aimed at holding local elections in the coming years.

On the other hand, the participants thanked the local executive for its efforts in mobilising other cities and Angolan companies to stand as candidates to members of UCCLA.

The new Angolan candidatures, submitted during the event, include those from the cities of Benguela, Lobito, Lubango, Kuito, Malanje and Uíge.

The participants also approved unanimously the holding, next April, of an extraordinary forum in Maputo, Mozambique, to review and change the organisation's status, as well as an ordinary event, scheduled for late February 2009, in Lisbon (Portugal), at the organisation's headquarters.
