Female artworks on display to mark the on-going Celebrating Womanhood Exhibition at the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe are now on sale.

In an interview, gallery press officer, Rutendo Mutadzapasi said the sale of the artworks was aimed at empowering women and creating an income for them.

"Women artists should be able to sustain themselves and be self sufficient economically," said Mutadzapasi.

Some of the works on sale were by accomplished female artists such as Mercy Moyo, Portia Zvavahera, Colleen Madamombe, Laurie Macphrerson, Bernice Bickle and Shannon Murphy.

The works on sale reveal the artistic skill women artists in Zimbabwe possess.

They also mirror the roles performed by women in society.

Sarah Fynn's paintings tell a story of the strength and power of the body of a woman, opposing the belief that women's bodies are instruments of sexual pleasures.

Some of the photographic images in the West Corridor depict some of the struggles and hardships that women undergo to fend for their families and still afford to put up a smile at the end of the day.

Mutadzapasi said the sale was open to the public and all art lovers.

"Art lovers can treat the mselves to magnificent and beautiful artworks on offer," said Mutadzapasi.

Celebrating womanhood exhibition will run up to 20 April.
