In a bid to effect an arrest of a local resident by a police officer over the week-end in Foyah, Lofa County, the resident has allegedly died after the police officer reportedly mal-handled him, a situation which has created violent reaction from concerned residents.
According to results of an investigation conducted by our local correspondent in the area, the deceased, Prince Luseni, met his untimely death when a police acting upon a directive from the Foyah Police Depot, went in pursuit of him in an effort to have him arrested.
Our correspondent said Luseni's arrest was predicated upon a complaint brought against him to the local police depot in the area by a Fula businessman.
Our correspondent said it all started when the Fula businessman who normally travels between Guinea and Liberia to trade, demanded from the deceased some amount of money, which he claimed, the deceased owed him.
According to our correspondent, the deceased reportedly responded to the Fula businessman in a harsh manner, something that did not go down too well with the Fula Business man, thus prompting him to take the matter to the police.
Our correspondent stated further that, that precipitated the police officer to effect the arrest in consonance with the orders of his commanders.
Our correspondent added that it was in the process that the officer allegedly mal-handled the deceased and before they could get to the police depot for investigation, the accused died.
Our correspondent said that Luseni's death angered some local residents who blamed the police for over reacting, thus prompting them to stage a protest action over the reported act of the police officer.
According to results of further investigation by our correspondent, the officer in question fled the area when efforts were exerted to have him face arrest too. He was said to still be at large up to press time.

When this paper contacted the Police Chief of CID in the area, Mr. Bangulu Sherriff, he said all was calm in the area, but he declined to comment further on the matter and instead refered our reporter to the most Senior Police Commander in county, Mr. Thomas Kollie.
When Commander Kollie was contacted, he also declined to comment on the situation on grounds that he has not been authorized by his bosses from Monrovia. He suggested that although he was willing to comment but that this paper must get authorization from his bosses before he can comment.
However, when this paper made contacts with the police central office, in an attempt to get words from the Police Director or any of her deputies, the phone rang endlessly.
