Kampala — THE First Lady, Janet Museveni has urged Ugandans to deliver a knock-out blow to HIV/AIDS by reducing the prevalence rate from the current 6% to zero.
She said it was frustrating that hundreds of people continue to contract HIV/AIDS when its means of transmission are well-known and easy to prevent.
Mrs. Museveni said the ABC strategy is unique among policies to control the spread of HIV/AIDS because it emphasises behaviour change.
She was on Friday meeting renowned author and evangelist Pastor Dick Warren, who called on her at State House, Nakasero.
Warren is the head of the Saddleback Church based in the USA and author of the book The Purpose Driven Life. He congratulated the First Lady and Ugandans for the achievements realised in the fight against the HIV/AIDS scourge which saw the prevalence of the disease fall from 30% to 6% today.
He hailed Uganda's ABC strategy which he said was focused on stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS rather than merely slowing its spread.
Warren said Saddleback Church had done a lot of work in fighting HIV/AIDS with emphasis on safe sex in marriage, respect for female partners, treatment through Churches and having a single partner in life.
The pastor said those involved in fighting HIV/AIDS needed to utilise the Church because of its universal presence, large following, volunteer culture and credibility in society.
