Angola: Ongoing Rescue Operation At Dnic Positive - Official

31 March 2008

Luanda — The coordinator of Civil Protection Services, Eugénio Laborinho, Monday in Luanda considered as positive the ongoing work carried out by rescue team at collapsed DNIC headquarters.

Speaking to ANGOP, the coordinator said that this was due to the fact that the involved team has managed to rescue, in three days of activities, 147 people that were trapped in debris of the collapsed building which housed the National Criminal Investigation Department (DNIC).

To Eugénio Laborinho, the number of dead bodies rescued so far stood at 21, which shows the efficiency of the team deployed at the site. He added that the personnel joining the rescue team continue working hard in order to remove other bodies trapped in debris.

Eugénio Laborinho said that they rely on all necessary assistance of the state-owned institutions, non-governmental organisations and singular people.

Involved in the rescue operation are also fire-fighters, National Police officers, members of the Angolan Armed Forces, officials of the National Reconstruction Office and of Navy Force.
