The Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) in partnership with Ozone Night Club will organise the second edition of the beach volleyball tournament next Sunday.

When it was held for the first time last year, the response proved that beach volleyball can be successful even where there is no beach.

People turned up in large numbers to witness the event. BVF development officer, Boitshwarelo Motlogelwa said they will decide to make the tournament an annual event depending on its success.

He said the registration for the tournament to be held at the Ozone Club premises in Tlokweng is open to everybody. The registration fee is P100.

Because there are no beaches in Botswana, sand will be transported and spread at the venue. Artificial swimming pools will also be provided.

Motlogelwa said they hope to have a successful event just like last year. He pointed out that in its first year, the tournament had a good turnover of both spectators and players. It attracted the media personnel who took part in the event. The tournament will help keep volleyball players active while they wait for the league to start.

It will give volleyballers an opportunity to have fun. Motlogelwa said that more companies have shown interest in sponsoring the tournament.

He said BVF aspire to send players to compete in international beach volleyball events. The only differences between beach volleyball is that one is played on a court of sand with two players each side while the other is played on hard surfaces with six players a side.
